Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh

The Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh has been providing service to rural member consumers for over 34 years. Continued support from the Government of Bangladesh, the donor community, consulting partners, and member consumers will help this program continue to expand, providing the gift of electricity to millions more Bangladeshi households, businesses, and industries.

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification (RE) Program was founded with a Presidential Ordinance in October 1977 that established the Rural Electrification Board (REB) as the semi-autonomous government agency reporting to the Ministry of Power Energy and Minerals Resources. This was responsible for electrifying rural Bangladesh. Since its inception, the purpose of the program has been to use electricity as a means of creating opportunities for improving agricultural production and enhancing socio-economic development in rural areas, whereby there would be improvements in the standard of living and quality of life for the rural people.

Today there are 70 operating rural electric cooperatives called Palli Bidyuit Samity (PBS), which bring service to approximately 92,80,785 new connection being made and more than 2,38,711 kms of line has been constructed.

History of Electricity in Bangladesh

Electricity utilization in this region (Bangladesh) started in 1901 when a private generator was installed at the residence of the then Nawab of Dhaka. Mr. Bolton, British citizen, switched on the first electricity in Ahsan Monjil on 7 December 1901. Electricity distribution system under private ownership was begum by DEVCO, a subsidiary of Octttavian Steel Company in the 1930s and Dhanmondi power house was setup for commercial distribution of power.

In the year 1947, power generation and distribution of this part of the country were in the hands of some private companies. The power supply to then 17 provincial districts was within the township in a limited way. The generation voltage was 400 volts. Power used to be supplied to most of the districts during nighttime only. Only exception was Dhaka City where power used to be supplied by two 1500 kW generators and the generation voltage was 6.6 kV and this was the highest supply voltage.
There were no long distance transmission lines. In aggregate the generation capacity of the country was 21 MW.

What are various diseases that occurred during summer and rainy season?

Common diseases are cholera caused due to contaminated food and water. Jaundice, typhoid, dengue, malaria, viral diseases.

The most common monsoon disease is diahorrea which is a typical water borne disease. The second common ailment is cold and fever due to getting drenched in rains. Have Waterbury’s compound Red lable or Seven seas regularly to build up your internal strength.
Summer it is migrane and giddiness. Migrane due to going in the hot sun without any protection for your head and giddiness and throat parchment due to dehyderation. Drink plenty of fluids and carry an umbrella before going out in the morning.
Common diseases are cholera caused due to contaminated food and water. Jaundice, typhoid, dengue, malaria, viral diseases.
Jaundice is caused by road side food and contaminated water.
Dengue due to mosquitoes. Malaria again due to them.
Best way to prevent these disease are to completely stop eating outside, drink boiled water and empty water breeding mosqitoes.

Now it is rainy seasons goes in our country. It may stay 2 to 4 months. Theoretically in bangle ‘Asar’ & ‘Sraban’ is rainy season. But due to change in weather, it may stay more than 2 months. In rainy season there are many disease affected human body. So we have to be aware of rainy season diseases.
